ALLA Lifetime Achievement Award The awards committee of the Association for Latina and Latino Anthropologists is hereby soliciting nominations for the Lifetime Achievement Award.
This award is designed to recognize a career of achievement in the practice of the anthropological study of and/or service to the U.S. Latina and Latino population. Achievement may be demonstrated by either a distinguished record of publication, public or university service, or educational instruction that serves to better understand, represent, and respect the rights, lives and cultures of U.S. Latinas and Latinos. Nominations require a letter of recommendation that clearly details the achievements of the nominee as well as a rationale for their selection. When possible, the nominee's curriculum vitae should also be included. The winner will be announced in the AN and recognized at the AAA annual meeting. Nominators should provide five copies of their nomination postmarked no later than September 1st of the year that the award is offered. Nominations should not be submitted before July 1st of those years during which the award is offered. Please provide hard copy only; no faxes will be accepted. Queries are welcome anytime. Please note that current awards are announced in the ALLA column published in the Anthropology Newsletter. The Lifetime Achievement Award is offered once every two years. The Association for Latino and Latina Anthropology sponsors a Book Award that is offered every other year. The award is offered for the best book published within the last five years on any facet of anthropology that concerns issues related to US Latinas/os and their communities. The prize competition is sponsored every other year and the award is presented at the annual American Anthropological Association meeting. There are no restrictions on the number of nominations per press. We will not consider translations, reprints, re-editions of previously published works, edited volumes, or multi-author collections of essays. Nominations will be reviewed by a committee of ALLA members. The next Book Award will be announced at this Internet location, as well as by way of the ALLA section published within the AAA's Anthropology News. Procedure for Nominations Publishers wishing to submit books for consideration should send four copies of the book, one for each of the four committee members at the address noted below. All nominations must be received by the deadline prescribed during those years during which the award is offered. The Association for Latina and Latino Anthropologists sponsors an annual student paper prize competition. The award is granted for the best student paper on any facet of anthropology that concerns issues related to US Latinas, Latinos and their communities. Eligibility is open to individuals who are students at the time of their submission; papers should be no more than 5000 words (20 double-spaced pages) in length. All papers will be reviewed by a committee composed of ALLA members. The author of the student paper judged of the highest quality will receive a cash award in the amount of $200.00. The winner will be announced in the Anthropology Newsletter with the prize awarded at the American Anthropological Association annual meeting. Authors should provide 5 copies of their submission postmarked no later than September 20th of each year during which the prize is offered - hard copy only, please; no faxes.
